Jaap Borgers (Netherlands 1947) was educated in the 60’s and 70’s as a painter, sculptor and glasblower at the Art Academy in Utrecht and the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, with gueststudies in Denmark and England. He has had exhibitions with a variety of works in Holland, France, Germany and Finland. Originally his work was based on traditional Dutch neorealism and craftmanship, later it became more conceptual.

Besides his work as an artist he has been involved with teaching portraitmodelling, managing a cultural centre, doing theatrelighting and set up a theatre. He organizes for over ten years now an artmanifestation in wich yearly over a hundred artists of all disciplines participate. Here he has also a platform to make installations/performances in coöperation with other artists. He made and directed a performance with 20 actors and dancers and a windmill, for which he also made part of the soundtrack; he contrived a concert for 6 motorcars and a Harley Davidson, together with three composers and conservatoire students; In his installation “Reflection” he brought together, after 30 years, a number of his former co-artstudents for an exhibition of recent work, through which concerts and danceperformances were held, based on adaptations by several composers, of Arvo Pärts “Spiegel im spiegel”, and which was set in a hall of mirrors. This type of projects he sees as autonomous pieces of art, like paintings or sculptures.

After Borgers met his wife, Finnish ceramist Pike Räsänen, he lived and worked partly in Finland for over ten years. Here he got in touch with the Japanese firing method ‘Raku’, what finally resulted in sculptures constructed with thin Raku fired clayslabs. In this Rakuworks he integrates imprints of -previously made- portraits, of which a fleeting image stays behind.

Aktiviteiten:

1. Sinds 1968   zelfstandig kunstschilder.
2. 1970-1971    stripafdeling Marten Toonder Studio's.
3. 1975             beeldhouwdocent culturele centra in Soest en Huizen .
4. 1976             restauratie houtsnijwerk voor het Binnnenhof in Den Haag.
5. 1978-1991    schilder/beeldhouwer in Finland
6. 1983-1990    geeft lessen portretboetseren in eigen atelier.
7. Sinds 1986    werkt met keramische objecten in de Japanse Raku methode .
8. Sinds 1987    eigen vormgevingsbedrijf.
9. Sinds 1991    werkt in Schoorl, voornamelijk in opdracht.
10. Sinds 1997    organiseert jaarlijks de kunstmanifestatie Schoorlse Kunsten.
11. 1998              oprichting stichting SchoK en benoeming tot voorzitter.

Projecten:

• Performance 'Wolk', kunstmatige wolk wordt door de Schoorlse molen uit de  lucht getrokken. Met muziek van Pé Okx. 1997
• Produceert en regiseert 'Slag van de molen', een muziek/theater/dans voorstelling voor 20 spelers en dansers en een molen. Muziek i.s.m. Erik Hespe. 1998
• Bedenkt en organiseert 'Autotonen', concert voor zes auto's en 'n motorfiets. Compositieopdracht voor drie componisten, uitgevoerd door studenten van het Alkmaars conservatorium. 1999
• 'Reflectie’. Installatie/expositie/concert/performance. Zelfreflectie op eigen achtergrond met participatie van oud-mede-kunststudenten en collega beeldende- en uitvoerende kunstenaars. 2004

Tentoonstellingen:

• Vanaf 1969 regelmatig groeps- en solo exposities met schilderijen, tekeningen, glas en beelden overal in Nederland;in Amsterdam o.a.in Galerie Lieve Hemel, Museum Fodor, Galerie Merlo en Galerie Novanta Nove; en in galeries in Frankrijk, Duitsland en Finland.
• Nam in 2008 deel aan de internationale tentoonstelling 'Born in fire' in 'Fiskars village' Finland, en in juni 2009 aan de kunstmanifestatie 'Mix with me' op ateliercomplex Nieuw en Meer in Amsterdam.
